How to set security questions

Security questions add a second layer of protection to your KiddyCash account — useful when you need to confirm sensitive actions or recover access without a full identity re-verification. If you manage a family wallet, run a school subscription, or handle business payouts in KES, getting this right matters.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • An active KiddyCash account with a verified phone number
  • Your current PIN handy — you’ll need it to authorize the change. If you’ve forgotten it, reset your PIN first before continuing.

How to set your security questions

  1. Go to your Security Questions page. Log in and navigate directly to https://kiddy.cash/profile/security-questions. You can also get there via Profile → Security → Security Questions.

  2. Enter your current PIN to unlock the section. This step confirms it’s really you. If you’ve recently changed your PIN, use the new one — KiddyCash does not accept old PINs after a change. See how to change your account PIN if you need a refresher on PIN management.

  3. Choose three questions from the dropdown lists. Each question must come from a different category — personal history, preferences, and contact-related. You cannot pick the same question twice or leave a category blank.

  4. Type your answers carefully. Answers are case-insensitive but spacing matters — “Nairobi West” and “NairobiWest” will be treated differently. Write them exactly as you’ll remember them. Avoid answers that change over time, like a current phone number or an employer name.

  5. Confirm and save. Tap Save Security Questions. KiddyCash will send a confirmation code to your registered M-Pesa-linked phone number. Enter the code within two minutes to finalize. Once saved, a green badge appears on your security dashboard confirming the questions are active.

Choosing strong answers

The goal is answers that are memorable to you but not guessable by someone who knows you casually. Avoid:

  • Common public facts (hometown, birth year, first school if it’s on your social profile)
  • Answers that other family members on the same account might also know

Consider using a consistent personal convention — like always adding a number suffix to your answer — so you remember it without making it obvious.

When security questions are triggered

KiddyCash uses your security questions in two specific scenarios:

  • Account recovery — when you’ve lost access and can’t receive an OTP, your answers let the system verify you without a full KYC re-submission.
  • High-value confirmations — certain actions, like increasing a child’s weekly allowance limit above a set threshold or approving a bulk school payment, may prompt a question as a secondary check.

This is separate from your PIN workflow. Knowing your PIN does not bypass security questions in recovery flows.

Updating or changing your questions

You can update your questions at any time from the same page at https://kiddy.cash/profile/security-questions. Each update requires PIN entry and a fresh OTP confirmation. KiddyCash logs the timestamp of every change — visible in your account activity — so you’ll have a record if anything looks unexpected.

If you’re exploring other ways to tighten your account, it’s also worth reviewing what’s new in subscriptions in KiddyCash and a closer look at subscriptions in KiddyCash, especially if you manage recurring payments for a school or business — subscription-related actions are among those most likely to trigger secondary security checks.
