How to view a child profile

A child profile in KiddyCash is the individual record for each child in your family. It holds their personal details, wallet balance, transaction history, badges, and any active allowances or loans tied to that child. Opening a child profile is your starting point for managing everything related to that child’s financial activity.

Before you begin: You need an active family set up in KiddyCash. If you haven’t done that yet, follow the steps in How to create a new family first.

What you’ll find on a child profile

SectionWhat it shows
Profile detailsChild’s name, age, and avatar
Wallet balanceCurrent KES balance in the child’s wallet
Allowance scheduleFrequency and amount of any recurring allowances
Transaction historyAll money in and out, including M-Pesa top-ups
LoansAny active or completed loans from the family
BadgesAchievements the child has earned for financial milestones

Steps to open a child profile

  1. Open the KiddyCash app on your phone and sign in with your parent account.

  2. Go to the Family Overview page. This is the main dashboard for your family, where all your children are listed as cards. If you’re not sure how to get there, see How to open the Family Overview page.

  3. Find the child’s card. Each child in your family appears as a card showing their name, avatar, and current wallet balance.

  4. Tap the child’s card. This opens the full child profile for that child.

  5. Review the profile sections. Use the tabs or scroll down to move between wallet details, transaction history, badges, and loan records.

You can also navigate directly to a child’s profile using their unique profile link:

https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/:kiddy_id

Replace :kiddy_id with the child’s ID, which you can find in the profile URL once you open it the first time. This direct link is useful if you manage multiple children and want to bookmark individual profiles.

Understanding the Loans section

The child profile includes a Loans tab. This is where you can see any money you’ve lent to your child through KiddyCash — for example, advancing them KES 500 for a school trip before their next allowance arrives. Loans come with repayment tracking, so your child can see what they owe and pay it back from their wallet over time.

Teaching children how loans work is one of the most practical financial lessons a parent can give. For more on the thinking behind this, read Why teaching kids about loans creates better financial adults and How family loans work as a financial education tool.

Tips

  • If a child’s profile doesn’t appear on the Family Overview, they may not have been added to your family yet. Go back to the family setup to add them.
  • Wallet balances update in real time after M-Pesa top-ups or allowance payments.
  • Badges are visible to the child in their own app view — a useful motivation tool for younger children.
