How to delete an allowance schedule
Deleting an allowance schedule is a permanent action — it stops all future payments under that schedule immediately. Before you proceed, it helps to understand exactly what you’re removing and whether a pause or edit might serve you better.
Note: Deleting a schedule does not reverse payments that have already been sent. Any KES already deposited into your child’s wallet stays there.
When to delete vs. when to edit
If your child’s needs have changed — say, you’re moving from a weekly cadence to a monthly one — consider editing the existing schedule or replacing it. See how to create a weekly allowance for a child and how to create a monthly allowance for a child for guidance on setting those up fresh.
Delete the schedule when:
- The child has outgrown the arrangement entirely
- You’re restructuring your family’s finances and the allowance should stop permanently
- A duplicate schedule was created by mistake
- The child has moved to earning through chores or a school-linked programme instead
Steps to delete an allowance schedule
-
Open the KiddyCash app and navigate to your family dashboard.
-
Select the child whose allowance you want to remove. You’ll land on their profile, which shows their wallet balance, recent transactions, and active schedules.
-
Tap “Allowances” in the child’s profile menu. This lists every active and paused schedule attached to that child.
-
Tap the allowance you want to delete. Each card shows the amount, frequency, and next scheduled payment date — double-check you’re selecting the right one, especially if the child has both a weekly pocket money schedule and a separate savings top-up running in parallel.
-
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner of the allowance detail screen.
-
Select “Delete schedule.” You’ll be shown a confirmation prompt that displays the allowance name, amount, and the date of the next payment that will be cancelled.
-
Confirm the deletion. Once confirmed, the schedule is removed immediately. No further disbursements will occur, and the allowance will no longer appear under the child’s active schedules.
You can also navigate directly to a specific allowance using its unique link:
https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/account/allowance/:allowance_id
Replace :allowance_id with the actual ID visible in the allowance detail screen URL. This is useful if you’re managing several children across a busy household in Nairobi or another city and want to share the exact schedule with a co-parent for review before deleting.
What happens after deletion
- The child’s wallet balance is unaffected
- Any badges earned through consistent allowance receipt are retained
- If the allowance was funded via M-Pesa auto-debit, that debit instruction will not fire on the next scheduled date — but confirm with your mobile money provider if you set up a standing order separately outside KiddyCash
- The schedule cannot be recovered; you would need to create a new one from scratch
Thinking beyond the mechanics
How you handle the end of an allowance is also a teaching moment. Research suggests that schools play a bigger role in financial literacy than most parents realise, which means the habits your child builds at home carry extra weight. If you’re transitioning away from a fixed allowance, consider reading about how schools and families can collaborate on financial education to keep that momentum going.
