How to Review a Child Allowance in Detail

An allowance in KiddyCash is a scheduled, automatic payment sent from your family wallet to a child’s wallet. Once you have set one up — whether weekly or monthly — you can open its detail record at any time to check exactly how it is configured and whether it is running as expected.

This article walks you through opening that record and understanding every field on the screen.

Before You Begin

Make sure you are logged in to KiddyCash as a parent or guardian with admin access to your family. You must have at least one allowance already created for a child. If you have not created one yet, start with the weekly or monthly setup guides linked above.

Step-by-Step: Open an Allowance Record

  1. Open the KiddyCash app and tap Family in the bottom navigation bar.

  2. Tap the name of the child whose allowance you want to review. This opens their profile.

  3. Scroll down to the Allowances section and tap the allowance you want to inspect.

  4. You are now on the allowance detail screen. You can also navigate directly to this screen using your allowance’s unique link:

    https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/account/allowance/:allowance_id

Replace :allowance_id with the actual ID shown in your app URL or notification. This is useful if you are managing multiple children and want to bookmark a specific allowance.

Understanding the Allowance Detail Fields

The table below explains each field you will see on the detail screen.

FieldWhat It Means
Allowance NameThe label you gave this allowance, e.g. “Weekly Pocket Money”
AmountThe fixed amount paid per cycle, shown in your local currency (e.g. KES 500)
FrequencyHow often the payment runs — Weekly or Monthly
Start DateThe date the first payment was or will be made
Next Payment DateThe scheduled date of the next automatic transfer
StatusWhether the allowance is Active, Paused, or Cancelled
Recipient WalletThe child’s KiddyCash wallet that receives the funds
Created ByThe parent or guardian account that set up this allowance

What the Status Values Mean

  • Active — The allowance is running normally. Payments will go out on the next scheduled date.
  • Paused — Payments are temporarily stopped. No funds will transfer until you resume.
  • Cancelled — The allowance has been permanently stopped and cannot be restarted. You would need to create a new one.

Tips for Parents

  • If a payment did not arrive on the expected date, check your family wallet balance first. KiddyCash cannot process a transfer if the source wallet has insufficient funds.
  • In households across Nairobi and other cities where parents top up via M-Pesa, a failed top-up the night before a scheduled allowance is the most common reason for a missed payment.
  • Teaching children to check their own wallet and understand where the money comes from is a meaningful first step in financial education. Research shows that schools play a bigger role in financial literacy than most parents realise, but the habits children build at home matter just as much. Exploring how schools and families can collaborate on financial education can help you reinforce those lessons consistently.
