How to Switch Between App and Portal Views
KiddyCash serves different types of users — parents managing family allowances, business owners running campaigns, and school administrators tracking student wallets. Each of these operates in its own portal view: a tailored dashboard experience designed for that specific context.
This article explains what portal views are, how to switch between them, and how to stay oriented as you move around the platform.
What is a portal view?
A portal view is the version of KiddyCash you see after logging in, based on your account type. Think of it like switching between different “modes” of the same app.
| Portal View | Who it’s for | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Family | Parents and guardians | Manage kids’ wallets, set allowances, track spending in KES |
| Business | Shop owners and merchants | Run campaigns, generate transaction codes, manage subscriptions |
| School | School administrators | Enrol students, assign badges, oversee school wallet activity |
If you are a parent in Nairobi who also runs a small business, your account may have access to more than one portal view. Switching between them does not reset your session or lose your place.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- A verified KiddyCash account. If you haven’t signed up yet, see How to sign up for KiddyCash.
- Completed your login. If you’re unsure how, read How to log in with email and OTP.
- Completed any required KYC or KYB verification for the portal you want to access.
How to switch portal views
-
Open your dashboard. Go to https://kiddy.cash/dashboard in your browser, or tap Dashboard in the mobile app.
-
Find the portal switcher. In the top-left corner of the screen, you will see your current portal label — for example, Family, Business, or School. Tap or click it.
-
A dropdown menu appears. This menu lists every portal your account has access to. Portals you are not yet enrolled in will appear greyed out.
-
Select the portal you want. Tap the portal name. The page will reload to show the correct dashboard for that context.
-
Confirm you are in the right view. The header colour and navigation menu will change to reflect the active portal. For example, the Business portal shows Campaigns and Transaction Codes in the side menu, while the Family portal shows Allowances and Kids’ Wallets.
-
Continue your work. Your previous session in the other portal is saved. When you switch back, you will return to where you left off.
Troubleshooting
I only see one portal option. Your account is currently linked to one context. To add a Business or School portal, complete the relevant KYB or school onboarding flow from your account settings.
A portal is greyed out. You may need to finish verification steps before accessing it. Check your notifications for any pending KYC or KYB actions.
I accidentally switched portals. Use the same switcher to return. No data is lost when switching.
Tips
- If you manage M-Pesa-linked wallets for your children and also collect payments at your business, use the portal switcher regularly — keeping the two contexts separate helps avoid confusion.
