How to view a child savings goal

A savings goal in KiddyCash is a target amount you set for your child to work toward — for example, saving KES 2,000 for a new school bag or KES 5,000 for a birthday trip in Nairobi. Once you or your child create a savings goal, you can open it at any time to check how much has been saved, how much remains, and when the goal is expected to be reached.

This article explains how to find and read a savings goal in the KiddyCash app.

Before you start

Make sure you:

  • Are logged in to KiddyCash as a parent or guardian
  • Have at least one child added to your family account
  • Have already created a savings goal for that child

If you have not created a goal yet, start with How to create a savings goal for a child.

Steps to view a savings goal

  1. Open the KiddyCash app on your phone and sign in with your parent account credentials.

  2. Tap your family name on the home screen. This opens your family dashboard, where all your children’s wallets are listed.

  3. Select the child whose goal you want to view. This opens their individual wallet and activity summary.

  4. Tap the “Goals” tab inside the child’s wallet. You will see a list of all active and completed savings goals for that child.

  5. Tap the goal you want to inspect. This opens the goal detail screen.

  6. Review the goal details displayed on screen (see the table below).

You can also go directly to a specific goal using a link in this format:

Replace :goal_id with the unique ID of the goal. You can find this ID in the goal detail screen under Goal Settings.

Tips for reading the goal screen

  • If the progress bar is red or orange, the child is behind schedule based on the target date. You may want to increase their allowance or add a manual top-up.
  • Encouraging children to watch their own progress builds real money habits early. Connecting their goals to a visible family plan — like those described in this guide on running a family budget kids can see and learn from — makes the experience more meaningful.
  • For families using M-Pesa to fund their KiddyCash wallets, contributions reflect within minutes of a successful transfer.
  • If you want to change the target amount or deadline, see How to edit a child savings goal.
  • Savings goals work best when they are part of a broader family financial conversation. The article on why the family budget is your most powerful financial teaching tool explains how to frame that conversation with younger children.
