How to view smart approval rules

Smart approval is KiddyCash’s rule-based system that automatically approves or blocks transactions from your child’s wallet — without you needing to review each one manually. For example, you can allow your child in your city to spend the equivalent of 500 in your local currency at a school canteen every weekday, while blocking any transaction above that limit until you manually approve it.

Before changing anything, it helps to see exactly which rules are currently active for your family. This article walks you through how to do that.

What is a smart approval rule?

A smart approval rule is a condition you set that tells KiddyCash how to handle a specific type of transaction automatically. Rules can be based on:

ConditionExample
AmountAllow transactions under the equivalent of 200 in your local currency
Merchant or businessAlways approve a specific school tuck shop
Time or dayOnly allow spending on weekdays
CategoryBlock gaming or entertainment purchases
FrequencyLimit to three transactions per day

Rules run silently in the background. When a transaction matches a rule, KiddyCash acts on it instantly — your child gets a smooth experience, and you stay in control.

Before you start

Make sure you:

  • Are logged in to KiddyCash as a parent or guardian with admin access to your family
  • Have at least one child wallet linked to your family profile
  • Are using the KiddyCash app or web dashboard

How to view your smart approval rules

  1. Open your family dashboard. Tap the Family icon in the bottom navigation bar, then select your family name.

  2. Go to Smart Approval. Scroll down to the Controls section and tap Smart Approval. You can also go directly to your smart approval list at https://kiddy.cash/family/:family_id/smart-approval — replace :family_id with your actual family ID, visible in your account settings.

  3. Review the rules list. You will see a list of all active and paused rules for your family. Each row shows:

    ColumnWhat it means
Rule nameA label you or KiddyCash assigned
Applies toWhich child or all children
ConditionThe trigger (e.g. amount, merchant, time)
ActionAuto-approve, auto-block, or escalate to parent
    StatusActive or Paused
  4. Tap a rule to see its full details. Selecting a rule opens a detail view showing every condition and action configured. No changes are saved unless you explicitly edit and confirm.

Understanding rule status

  • Active — The rule is running and will apply to matching transactions immediately.
  • Paused — The rule exists but is temporarily disabled. Transactions that would have matched it are handled by your default settings instead.

If you do not see any rules, your family has not set any up yet. Read how to create a smart approval rule to get started.

Making changes

Viewing rules does not modify anything. If you spot a rule that needs updating — for instance, your child’s school fees have changed or you want to adjust their mobile money-linked spending limit — see how to edit a smart approval rule for step-by-step instructions.

KiddyCash has also recently improved how it verifies transactions before rules are evaluated. For context on those changes, see what’s new in verification in KiddyCash and a closer look at verification in KiddyCash.
