How a Child Views Their Loan

When a parent or guardian sets up a loan in KiddyCash — for example, to help cover the cost of a new school bag or a small business purchase — the child can check that loan at any time from their own account. This article walks you through exactly how to do that.

What is a loan in KiddyCash? A loan is an amount of money given to a child with an agreement to pay it back over time, usually from their allowance or earnings. Parents create these loans from their side of the app. If you want to understand how that works from the parent’s perspective, see How to create a loan for a child.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • Your own KiddyCash account (a Kiddy Account or a Kiddy Business account)
  • A loan that has already been created for you by a parent or guardian
  • Access to the KiddyCash app on your phone or tablet

What you will see on the loan page

Once you open your loan, the page shows a clear breakdown of where things stand. Here is what each field means:

FieldWhat it means
Original amountThe full amount borrowed — for example, KES 2,000
Amount paidHow much has already been repaid from your wallet
Amount remainingWhat you still owe right now
Repayment scheduleHow often payments are deducted (weekly, monthly, etc.)
StatusWhether the loan is Active, Completed, or Paused

Keeping an eye on the Amount remaining is the most important habit to build. Just like checking an M-Pesa balance before spending, knowing your loan balance helps you plan your money better. Learning this early connects directly to how chores and earning habits build real financial skills.

Steps to view your loan

  1. Open the KiddyCash app and log in to your Kiddy Account or Kiddy Business account.

  2. Go to your account dashboard. This is the main screen you see after logging in.

  3. Tap “Loans” in the navigation menu. If you do not see it immediately, look under the Money or Accounts section.

  4. Select the loan you want to check. If you have more than one loan, they will all be listed here. Tap the one you want to open.

  5. Review the loan details. You will now see the full breakdown described in the table above — original amount, amount paid, amount remaining, and status.

You can also go directly to your loan page using this link (replace the placeholders with your actual account and loan details):

https://kiddy.cash/kiddy/account/:kiddy_account_id/loan/:loan_id

Your parent or guardian can share your exact loan link with you if you are not sure which IDs to use.

Why this matters

In many Kenyan households, children take on small responsibilities — from helping at home to running a small school canteen business. Loans in KiddyCash are designed to mirror real-world borrowing in a safe, family-managed way. Understanding that chores and contributions still have real value in modern family life is part of what makes repaying a loan feel meaningful, not just transactional.

If you are a parent looking at this from the other side of the app, see How to view a child loan for the parent-facing loan detail page.
