How to Update a Kid Business
Your business description might have been perfect when you started, but businesses evolve. Maybe you changed your offering from selling beaded bracelets to making chapati on weekends, or your M-Pesa payment details need updating. Whatever the reason, keeping your KiddyCash business profile accurate helps customers and your family understand what you actually do.
Before editing, make sure you know your business ID — you’ll need it to navigate directly to your business page at https://kiddy.cash/kiddy-business/:business_id. You can also find your business by visiting all your kid-run businesses from your dashboard.
When to Update Your Business
Not every change needs an edit, but these definitely do:
- Your business name changed (even slightly — “Amara’s Snacks” vs “Amara Snacks” matters for searchability)
- You shifted focus — say, from tutoring to graphic design
- Your pricing model changed and your description no longer matches
- You want to update your business category to better reflect what you do
- Your location changed — important if you operate in a specific area like Westlands, Nairobi or a school compound
Steps to Update Your Business
-
Log into your KiddyCash account. Use the app or web portal. Make sure you’re signed in as yourself, not under a parent’s family account.
-
Go to your business. Navigate directly using your business URL:
https://kiddy.cash/kiddy-business/:business_id— replace:business_idwith your actual ID. If you don’t have this saved, find it through your business list. -
Open the Edit panel. On your business profile page, look for the Edit Business button — usually near the top right. This opens the full edit form with all your original setup fields pre-filled.
-
Update the relevant fields. You can change:
- Business name — Keep it clear and memorable
- Description — Be specific about what you sell or offer and who it’s for
- Category — Pick the closest match to what you currently do
- Location or service area — Update this if you’ve moved or expanded
- Contact or payment info — If customers pay you via M-Pesa, make sure your till or number is current
-
Review before saving. Read through the full profile as if you’re a customer seeing it for the first time. Does it make sense? Is the pricing accurate? Is the description honest about what you do?
-
Save your changes. Hit Save or Update Business. Your updated profile goes live immediately — there’s no waiting period.
What You Can’t Change Yourself
Some fields are locked after setup and need a parent or guardian to assist — typically your business verification status (KYB) or any linked wallet details. If you set up your business with a KES earnings wallet and need to change which wallet receives payments, loop in your parent through the family dashboard.
If you’re thinking about growing your business or adding an investment angle to what you earn, it’s worth reading about why investing is a concept kids can learn younger than you think and how to explain investing to a child without the jargon — both useful if you’re starting to think beyond just making sales.
If your business has changed so much that it feels like a completely different venture, it may be cleaner to start fresh. See how to create a kid-run business for what that process involves.
